Physical Therapy Technician:

Job Summary:

The technician is present to assist the licensed personnel in patient care duties, the office manager in all office activities and to be the primary responsible party for all light housekeeping duties.  These are all to be performed in compliance with the philosophy, policies, procedures, goal and budget of Greater Therapy Centers.

Minimum Criteria:

Specific Criteria:

Patient Care Duties

The technician is expected to assist the licensed therapist in providing quality treatment to the patient.  These duties include but are not limited to the following:

  1. The technician will routinely check the sign-in sheet, notify the treating therapist, pull the chart and initiate contact by way of a friendly greeting.

  2. The technician will routinely initiate therapist approved treatment by preparing hot packs, preparing ultrasound equipment and any other approved modality.

  3. The technician will notify the treating therapist of any relative comments the patient may make regarding his/her treatment or condition.

  4. The technician is responsible for responding to timers and removing modalities from the patient and initiating the next step in treatment.

  5. The technician is responsible for reading exercise flow charts and assisting with the set-up of equipment, such as gathering free weights, demonstrating mat exercises, and preparing weight machines by adjusting weights and/or seat heights and distances.

  6. The technician will assist in dismissing the patient from his/her treatment session and ensuring that the patient is scheduled for additional appointments.

  7. Assist therapist in tracking and ordering of clinical supplies such as Theraband, Putty, Ultra-sound gel, etc.

Office Duties

The technician is responsible for assisting in the office with all duties that the office manager sees fit.  These include but are not limited to the following:

  1. Answering the phone appropriately and in a timely manner.

  2. Accepting and receiving all the necessary information for a new referral.

  3. To schedule new and current patients properly, effectively and in a timely fashion.

  4. To assist with filing all necessary paperwork and correspondence.

  5. To be responsible for sorting and mailing/faxing all therapist correspondence to the proper physician.

  6. To assist with preparation of new charts and dismantling discharge patients’ charts upon discharge.

  7. To check in and effectively explain and issue paperwork to new patients.

  8. To review insurance benefits and assist office manager in explaining such benefits to the patient.

  9. To accept payment from both new and existing patients.

  10. To call patients to check on when they no show, stop attending and generally need to schedule.

General/Housekeeping Duties

  1. To open the facility each morning and prepare the facility for the arrival of patients.

  2. To place and maintain clean linens on all treatment tables and mats.

  3. Is responsible for washing and drying linens in a timely fashion so that the facility is well-stocked.

  4. Is responsible for emptying laundry bags in a timely manner.

  5. To routinely check the overall tidiness of the facility to maintain a clean, inviting atmosphere.

  6. To ensure that the hot pack machines are full of clean water on a daily basis and the ice machine is defrosted monthly.

  7. To clean with disinfectant the mats before the lunch hour and each evening after patient care is completed.

  8. To empty and take out the trash on a nightly basis.

  9. Is responsible for light vacuuming when necessary.
